When a flowchart needs lanes
A plain flowchart shows what happens; a swimlane diagram also shows who does it. The moment a process crosses a role, team, or system boundary, lanes earn their space — the handoffs between lanes are where processes stall, and a swimlane diagram makes every one visible as an arrow crossing a line.

How do I make a swimlane diagram from text?
Name the actors and describe the steps in order, attributing each one — “the employee submits, the manager approves, finance pays”. ChartCraft assigns each step to its actor's lane and draws the cross-lane handoffs.
What's the difference between a swimlane diagram and a flowchart?
Same logic, one extra dimension: a swimlane diagram partitions the flowchart by who is responsible. Use lanes whenever the process involves more than one role and you care about handoffs.
How many lanes should a swimlane diagram have?
Three to six is the sweet spot. More than that usually means you're mixing zoom levels — collapse minor actors into one lane (“Other teams”) or split the diagram.
Is a swimlane diagram the same as BPMN?
BPMN formalized pools and lanes, and ChartCraft renders swimlane processes in BPMN 2.0 notation. But you don't need to know BPMN — describe the process and the lanes appear.
Can I export the diagram?
